Help Howard County Families in Need

Help Howard County Families in Need A Project of Education, Financial Stability & Health

Together we can strengthen Howard County communities.

When you are living in poverty in one of the wealthiest counties in the nation, the high cost of living can make it difficult for the "working poor" to be self-sufficient.

Surprising numbers of people in Howard County are struggling, but together, we can help them find pathways out of poverty.

United Way of Central Maryland (UWCM) brings together businesses, nonprofits, government and people like you to collaborate around solutions to our community's biggest social issues. We help improve education, financial stability and health among Howard County's most vulnerable and at-risk residents.

By working with local volunteers who are human services experts, we can better understand the needs and what local government and private resources are already being applied. This allows our Howard County Community Partnership Board to help “fill in the gaps" and ensure every dollar does the most good.

Here are some examples of the impact that gifts from generous donors have had in Howard County:

  • $5,000 helped transport low-income seniors to community activities through Neighbor Ride.
  • $7,500 helped homeless individuals with transportation through Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center.
  • $20,000 helped local families stay in their homes and manage bills through Bridges to Housing Stability, the Salvation Army Howard County Family Service Center and the Community Action Council of Howard County.

Local needs. Local expertise. Local decisions.
That's what United Way of Central Maryland is all about.
